I have been watching a ton of independent films and documentaries lately because Mike works nights, leaving me (and the tv) alone. I really wanted to share them with my family and friends but if I wanted to post a blog about them, I would most likely have to blog 3-5 times a week. So here is a condensed version of the films I have watched as well as a brief commentary.
Films Watched in 2008
1. Iron Man - Holy Cow. Saw twice, loved twice. A top 10 film.
2. Indiana Jones 4 – Mike fell asleep watching it.
3. The Business of Being Born - Amazing, informative and beautiful.
4. The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters- Wonderful and very cool that we live so close to Steve Weibe.
5. Maxed Out – Very good but also very sad.
6. Juno – Very good. A top 15 film.
7. 28 Weeks Later OK. Not for the faint of heart. Not for many people really.
8. Resident Evil – Extinction - Better than 2, not as good as 1. Had some pretty WOO HOO moments.
9. Shooter – Very good. Nice Action flick when there is nothing else on.
10. The Greatest Silence – Great film, horrible content. It left me pretty shocked and upset but it’s a subject that people need to know.
11. For The Bible Tells Me So – Good film. I disagree with the premise but it was well done and one of the better documentaries on the subject.
12. Summer in the Cage- Ok. I wouldn’t watch it again and probably wouldn’t recommend it.
13. 27 Dresses – Perfect chick flick
14. Enchanted – Perfect family flick
15. Deliver Us from Evil – Another great film based on a horrible story. It left me so angry.
16. Eulogy – Hilarious
17. Death at a Funeral – Hilarious
18. This Film Is Not Yet Rated - Very good but it’s content should not be viewed by everyone.
19. The Golden Compass- Ok. Just ok.
20. The Nanny Diaries – Good. Probably wouldn’t watch it again though.
21. 3:10 to Yuma - Very cool. I love old westerns. I love remakes.
22. Wild Hogs – It shouldn’t have been as good as it was, but it was so much fun.
23. Michael Clayton – Very good.
24. The Origin of Aids – Awesome. So very awesome. I am entirely convinced.
25. Atonement – This movie left us depressed.
26. Jumper – A really fun action flick.
27. A Crude Awakening – The Oil Crash – Good, very strong documentary though I disagree with some of it’s premise.
28. Children of Men – Such a beautiful, wonderful movie. This is a top 15 film.
29. Be Kind Rewind – Very sweet. It was just a nice feel good movie.
30. Devil’s Advocate – Whoa man. Whoa.
31. Fool’s Gold – OK action movie, wouldn’t really watch again.
32. Pan’s Labyrinth – The film student in me wants to say it was the best movie I’ve ever seen… but I was kinda bored by it.
33. War – It was a nice action flick with mindless violence and a WHOA ending.
34. Vantage Point – Lame. This movie could have been great. But wasn’t.
35. National Treasure 2 – Book of Secrets – I don’t know why this movie was good but it was.
36. Step Up 2 The Streets – AMAZING. Man. I was really worried about this movie. So many things could have gone wrong (bad acting, bad dancing, bad story) but it was so good. A very sweet sequel.
37. Batman: The Dark Knight - Holy death scenes batman! I do not know if a brief commentary will do this film justice. Watch it if you are able and do not mind desperate brutality. It is a top 15 film.
38. Hancock – About mid-way through the movie I had to wonder if Will Smith ever stopped and questioned what the hell he was doing in that movie.
39. Meet Bill – Where did this movie come from? It was a brilliant and I am amazed I hadn’t heard of it until now. It is a top 20 flick.
40. In Bruges- Oh my goodness. This is the epitome of what I love in movies. Great comedic action, surprisingly deep story, perfect use of the f-word, random humor. Lovely. I don’t usually care for movies with so much gore and violence but it truly is a phenomenal movie. Easily top 20.
41. Penelope – CUTEST MOVIE EVER. Oh my goodness, amazing. Randomly enough, the second movie we watch in a week with midgets.
42. Made of Honor – Bleh. I got bored about mid-way through and started making up my own dialoge to it.
43. Futurama: The Beast with a Billion Backs – I think I’m over Futurama
((
44. Anne of Green Gables – Like I really need to review this.
45. Anne of Green Gables – The Sequel – See above
46. Anne Of Green Gables – The Continuing Story – See above
47. The Great Debaters – Very good.
48. 21 – Cool. I don’t know why everyone said it was bad.
49. Smart People – Soo good. We loved it.
50. Camp Rock – Please buy me this movie.
51. The American Mall – It was no camp rock.
52. Run, Fat Boy, Run [Blu-ray] – Awesome. So fricken awesome. AWESOME. Its even better if you are a fan of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz.
53. My Buddy Bill – Hilarious.
54. Bank Job – We couldn’t really watch this movie due to gratuitous sex scenes in the first 15 minutes. It got good ratings but if there was that much nudity in the first 15 minutes, I wondered how the rest of the movie was going to be.
55. Autism – The Musical – Oh wow. What an amazing piece. We were both crying at the end.
